Vidya Shakti aims to provide social, academic & financial support for quality education of the girl child. In India, more than 2 million girls are out of school while 53% of girl students in the age group of 5-9 years drop out of school due to lack of support from their families. A famous man once said ‘ Give me an educated mother and I will give you an educated nation’. Girls’ education is necessary for making their homes a happy place and hence ties in with Shubham’s key goal of providing better homes to people. However, there are numerous systemic issues that remain to be resolved in order to achieve sustainable change in education for girls. Vidya Shakti is just our first step towards achieving a larger goal!
Sanshil Foundation (Gurgaon) has been chosen as our first execution partner. Sanshil led by Shilpa Sonal which is working to provide access to quality education to the girl child from BPL/EWS category by enabling them to be “regular school” ready. They currently host about 300 students in their centres and Gurgaon & Noida. Over 100 students have been mainstreamed into regular schools making their academic pursuits.
To begin with, Shubham has taken up the responsibility to mainstream 50 girl students through its monetary and non-monetary contributions. The association was kicked off during Diwali when several Shubham employees joined the students in rangoli and diya making activities. We are quite exciting at the opportunities ahead for all of us at Shubham to make real difference.
